SOAP services can be called in 2 lines of code. SOAP doesn't *have* to be
hard, and using XML-RPC can be as complicated as your application
necessitates.
If you are looking to *implement* SOAP, then you have hit the nail on head:
it's a nightmare of complex moving targets ;)
If anyone is interested in trying SOAP/WSDL, give SOAPx4 [1] a try. It has
pure PHP implementations of both, and needs only the standard XML functions
in php. The client interoperates with web services toolkits such as Apache,
SOAP::Lite, Microsoft, Userland and more, and has undergone extensive
testing with the 30-odd toolkits involved in interop testing at this time
(but not claiming to interop w/ all ;)
Hopefully this will be helpful to those who are interested in web services
and PHP.
