Absolutely.
The point here is that depending on who your audience is, it may be
possible very soon to deploy to PHP 5.1 only. Let's not forget,
however, that Netcraft still has PHP 5 (all versions) adoption at about
10% of the total market. There's still a ways to go, but trends are in
the right direction.
Also, it should be noted that most people who are using newer PEAR
packages appear to be more on the cutting edge than those just using the
ones that go-pear provides. This, however, is anecdotal, and should be
backed up with hard evidence.
In short, if you plan to drop PHP 4 support, you better make damn sure
you know your audience and that they indeed have all moved to PHP 5!
