Hi there just my 2 cents. alexander merz and me also wrote some time ago a Config_file class (it can also handle xml and db-based configuration "containers") we never really finished it, mostly only because of lack of documentation, but we wanted to contribute it to PEAR... I use it quite regulary here in my company. I'm not sure, if it's the right thing, for what you want... have a look at it at : http://cvs.nomad.ch/index.cgi/pearlib/ and there under the Config Dir + Config.php in the root. chregu
