Hi Arnaud,
Mainly just to increase coverage. Mhash isn't completely defunct yet and PHP has continued to
bundle it since the introduction of hash.. I've no idea on the stats for hash being enabled or
not, nor do I know whether (a good question for someone more familiar with PEAR - a lot of
functionality came in only after PHP 5.1.4) there's a minimum PHP version PEAR classes should
support.
Covering my uncertainties? ;)

A bit late to the game but why are you using mhash when the hash
extension is included and enabled by default since php 5.1.2 ?
