Hey all, want something to think about other than the new coding standards? :)
I was about to propose a couple of packages for dealing with Excel spreadsheets, one of which is Spreadsheet_Excel_Reader, when Christian Schmidt pointed out to me that there already exists a project for reading/writing spreadsheets called "PHP Excel" over at Codeplex. Now this project lacks the ability to read the BIFF format but it does look quite comprehensive in it's ability to read and write the xlsx format.
So now I'm faced with 2 paths:
1. Continue with the original proposals
2. Add my BIFF parsing package to the PHP Excel project
I've asked the lead of PHP Excel if he'd consider moving over to pear and his response was no. Now I reckon that PEAR should be *the* place to come to if you want any libraries in PHP. So my question is: How can I sell PEAR to this guy? I'm leaning towards just contributing the stuff I worked on to his project, but I feel that it should all be in PEAR.
PS: For those of you who don't know, Codeplex is Microsoft's attempt at building an open source community.
