Hi,

Someone still needs to *write* these happy new packages, Lukas. And you risk having quite few of these if you alienate enough developers due to bad standards. Remember PHPUnit, that once was part of PEAR?Yes. But in this case the migration is solved by defining a single function at the beginning of your code. Quite a lot different than making your code magically E_STRICT. Also, we are talking about new libraries anyways .. a new major version etc. We are not talking about breaking old code. You simply install, define your __autoload or require allfiles or whatever and you are ready to use the nice happy new packages.I simply fail to see the disadvantages from this proposal, aside from that it requires a change in policy. Giving the fact that _all_ our current users stand to gain and that we also provide solutions for people we currently left in the dust, I am having a hard time to see the migration effort as a big issue .. especially since this is for a new major version of PEAR.Migration is always tricky - just look at the PHP4-to-PHP5 disaster. This should not be neglected. It all comes down to an education issue.
