-1. Several reasons:
1) People are confused about all sorts of things in PEAR already. Let's
not confuse them more.
2) We are living under the PHP umbrella where stuff is called PHP,
PECL, and SPL. And not php, pecl, and spl.
3) Even if we drop the acronym, what is so utterly wrong about keeping
our project's name in uppercase letters? If SAP decided to call itself
sap tomorrow, everyone would call them nuts. Why? Because there is no
single reason why this makes sense.
4) This is entirely personal taste, but I very much prefer the
typography "PEAR" over "pear" for aesthetical reasons.
5) On top of the reason I listed before, I'm actually wondering what
your reasons are for renaming PEAR? You don't mention a single on in
your mail.
Remember that saying about never touching a running system? This not
only applies to tech, but to corporate identity, too.
