Hello,
I was reading Greg's tutorial on how to setup a PEAR server [1] when I
ran into some issues.
First thing:
"If your PEAR installation is using a php4 binary, for instance, the
installation will fail and tell you why (PHP version < 5.0.0). You can
fix this by setting your php_bin to a php5 binary (like pear
config-set php_bin /path/to/php5)"
I ran into this problem many times and already discussed it on #PEAR
some time ago. The conclusion we took is that php_bin doesn't work's
this way. You CAN'T set the php binary being used by pear this way.
Instead you have to set the environment variable PHP_PEAR_PHP_BIN.
That's how it worked for me. Am I wrong here ?
Second thing:
pear channel-discover pear.chiaraquartet.net
pear install chiara/Chiara_PEAR_Server-alpha
all went ok. then comes the time:
pear run-scripts chiara/Chiara_PEAR_Server
I press enter to the first answer then I fill in the mysql info (user
etc.) when I get:
Copying DB_DataObject config file to
"/home/ifeghali/pear/data/Chiara_PEAR_Server/data/DBDataObject/pear.ini"
updating database to add deprecated package support
Table 'pear.packages' doesn't exist
Updating database failed
Install scripts complete
well i was trying to do a fresh install not an upgrade. in the time I
was writing this email I realized that in fact the post-install script
was trying to upgrade because I had already created the database
before, although it was empty. So I just had to drop the database and
everything gone fine. Suppose the mysql user don't have the write to
create a new database, then there is no way to install the server ?
