Quoting Christian Weiske <cweiske@cweiske.de>:
please have a look at http://pear.php.net/bugs/bug.php?id=13017 in php 5.3, calling a method statically with call_user_func(array($class, $method)) will fail if it is not declared static with the keyword. This is true for the validatexml functions in pear installer tasks.
I still don't understand why PHP 5.3 is making this change and how it's not a bug in PHP: http://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=43231 I'm all for moving to PHP 5 only with new code, but this is just a pointless change as far as I can tell. If you agree with me, please update the bug and maybe someone will listen. -chuck
