I'm not trying to be obtuse here but I don't want to think that I'm splitting up lines on the odd chance that some person might come along read my code with some ancient editor. Even using vi (not improved) will only optionally wrap text. Just quickly googling now on 80 character rationale, most projects quote readability and to try to prevent people from making too deeply nested blocks of code. I'm not against having a limit - I think it's good, but 80 characters is a bit short and we should allow exceptions where the line is more readable if left alone rather than being broken up. Perhaps we could also think about increasing the limit to 100, 120 or so. -- David Sanders shangxiao
