I did have the same problem some times ago when I put my first file in
cvs.php.net.
I'm also under Win.
I should have note all the things I did at that time, but I did not, so I
will try to help you by memory.
0. You will need an account (fill the form :
http://www.php.net/cvs-php.php), but you can start in
read-only mode (good
idea to get used with this tool)
1. Install WinCVS (www.cvsgui.org)
2. Start WinCVS ;-)
3. Menu 'Create'->'Create a new repository ...'
"Enter the CVSROOT:" : 'yourlogin@cvs.php.net:/repository' or
'cvsread@cvs.php.net:/repository' for a readonly access
4. Menu 'Admin' -> 'login' : enter your account password (or phpfi for the
readonly access) (I don't remember if you must do that in step 3 or 4)
5. Checkout a module : Menu 'Modify'->'Checkout module ...'
Enter 'pear' as the module
and select a local directory where the files will be put.
ALL the pear files will be checkouted (so not recommended). If you want to
create only the 'pear' directory, just check the box 'do not recurse'. You
will then be able to checkout modules by modules ('pear/PEAR',
'pear/Archive_Tar', ...)
After that you can modify the files and do a diff to see the diff with the
server version. If you have finished you can do a 'commit' which will
definitively update your modif to the server.
If you have files to add, you must select these files, do an 'add' and after
that a 'commit'.
Same thing for the 'delete' action, you will have to 'commit' the delete.
For all that last actions, select the file and use the buttons from the main
window of wincvs.
Hope all this can help you. I'm not a guru of CVS, but I succeed in using it
!
Vincent
