ems aren't reliable. only pixels are.

best advice: don't screw with font sizes. (*particularly* the default
size. you're just making the website less accessible.)
(but i'll disagree with the article's advice slightly, in that i find
the 'smaller' and 'larger' relative sizes useful in some instances.)
