Don't worry. PEAR is still in beta, so these things will happen. Log
1.0 was uploaded with old tools that did absolutely no sanity checking,
today it's much stricter. Before public release we will eject or fix
the bad releases that are left.
I've replaced the bad 1.0 tarball on pear.php.net:
$ pear -d master_server=pear.php.net install Log
downloading http://pear.php.net/get/Log ...
...done: 6,329 bytes
installed file /usr/share/pear/Log.php
installed file /usr/share/pear/Log/composite.php
installed file /usr/share/pear/Log/file.php
installed file /usr/share/pear/Log/mcal.php
installed file /usr/share/pear/Log/observer.php
installed file /usr/share/pear/Log/sql.php
installed file /usr/share/pear/Log/syslog.php
install ok
