Hello Carsten,
Requirements are indeed high, however they are required for performance. A
consideration could be creating wrapper classes for all these components
that use the dependencies internally, but that can also be replaced with
alternatives in userland code. Still, the PHP modules are the fastest stuff
out there at this time.
Regarding the "_somewhere_" part: we are interested in setting up a PEAR
channel somewhere, be it a custom one or via some of the hosted solutions
out there. We currently have a PEAR package deployed to CodePlex every
official release, I'm still trying to figure out a way that we can
distribute the package from there.
Summing things up: we are interested, even if it involves work. We still
have a lot of features in mind and as manpower is limited, we prefer
focusing on those than on providing 5.x support. If manpower allows it, this
is a viable "nice to have" as well.
Best regards,
Maarten
