Bertrand,
The error message "Invalid block size : " may come from Archive_Tar. It
indicates that the TAR file does not have a valid size. A TAR file is
composed of several 512 bytes blocks. It seems that it is not the case for
some package .... why ? I don't know .... The package .tgz file is may be
corrupted ?
If I remember well (but it was before all the last changes in the
installer), when you do a # pear install HTML_QuickForm, the installer tries
to download the package from http://pear.php.net web site. Today
there is no
package.
Hope this help,
Vincent

This seems to be fixed. I don't get the error again.

I don't know why, but this error is still here.

Fixed.

Any idea why I get this ?
# pear install HTML_QuickForm
Invalid block size : 58
It seems to happen with some other packages as well but
it works fine with DB, Archive_Tar and XML_RPC.
