no script destination directory

Hi all, I am trying to run the pear web intaller on mac os x. So far it seemed to work fine. Go-pear runs ok apparently but I get the following message at the end of the go-pear execution: # PEAR_Config::writeConfigFile fopen('/usr/local/etc/pear.conf','w') failed And then 3 times, /usr/local/etc doesn't exist on my machine, # Console_Getopt: unrecognized option -- rUsage: pear [options] command [command-options] <parameters> Followed by the list of available options, and then, # no script destination directory 2 more times, And after that, when I use #pear install DB I get this 'no script destination directory' all the time.
