Hi,
yeah MDB takes care of alot more abstraction then PEAR DB does.
It abstracts types (btw: it does not use mysql TIMESTAMP) and tons of
other stuff as well (like REPLACE, LOBs and even limited sub queries).
And the xml schema system also allows easy moving between DB's.
Anyways it's definitely in a state where it can and SHOULD be tested.
The only draw back is that currently MDB only supports mysql. But this
limitation could be quickly lifted by porting a Metabase driver (there
are instructions in the MDB cvs dir: Readme.txt).
Internally the API is modelled heavily after PEAR DB (it does not use a
result object however). So moving to MDB should not be hard (actually
you can use the MDB-PEAR-DB-Wrapper as a first step).
