I am developing on a box I do not own. 98% of the time I develop on boxes which usually have at
least 50 websites running on them. Most of these all share the same libraries. I cannot update
shared libraries.
With Perl, I can install modules locally, that gives me a *partial* control.
I have NO direct control over the php.ini file. It seems that this file is telling pear and php
where to find things, even when run at the command line. If I could override that .....
Or have I misunderstood? Can a user (not root) on a linux system install a local version of pear and
make sure that php (the system php) use his local version of pear? I have a local version of php
files which I
have told php about via .htaccess but if a system file exists, I'm sure it will get used and
not my local version (which would be newer).
