OK, now we have three +1, we need five of them - as far as I know - to make it a PEAR package, so here's a short commercial to win two more +1 for the DB_DOM / DB_XML class system :) You might ask yourself: "Why do I need a class that help's me store data in a DOM-like manner in a database?" Well, actually, it does not always make sense, because accessing a deeply nested XML tree stored in a DB table might eat up quite a lot of server resources. On the other hand, it can help you to handle the structure of big XML documents in a transparent way (that's the DOM API of our class) and also reasonable way as far as performance is concerned. For example, our class is perfectly suited if you want to work with DocBook XML documents inside a CMS: Simply build a tree of the document's structure (i.e. the chapters + sections) in the DB table with the DB_DOM / DB_XML class. The content of the section itself (the "blocks" in DocBook lingua like para, blockquote, abstract, ...) are stored as a whole as the content of the 'section' node. Now you can send the contents to the user for display/manipulation and back to the DB. We already started to work on import routines for XML documents into the DB table, and also on export routines to get an XML document from the DB table. Enough reasons to give two more +1 ? :) Sandro On Dienstag, 10.
