I asked Stefan why Console_Getopt wasn't addressed when I re-installed Pear's new version. Stefan believes that in some installer-versions "back in the early days" there were still problems with dependencies --- hmm, were they already in place? --- and so upgrading PEAR using the old installer didn't force you to also upgrade Console_Getopt. All up-to-date installers will alert you when something like this happens again, telling you that you also need to upgrade some of the other libraries.Meryl, I understand your frustration. Early versions of the installer lacked any regression tests, and PEAR decided to put the "stable" label on its code far too early. PEAR 1.2.1 did not support dependencies properly, and claimed to be stable. It was not. Rest assured that PEAR 1.3.0 and newer have this ability. However, having said this, I have an idea on how to fix this issue with Console_Getopt in the PEAR installer, and will do that so that future upgrades from PEAR 1.2.x or earlier never have this annoyance again.
