Well, PEAR::DB is the current standard, but it doesn't do type
abstraction on its own. You have to use DB_Table to a similar package
to do that (DB_DataObject does this as well, but not for as many types
and it doesn't create the tables for you).
MDB/MDB2 has built in type abstraction and overall seems like a great
product. MDB2 is supposed to be come the new DB (standard PEAR DB
abstraction layer) once it's stable. Personally I like what it's done
very much, but I'm fairly reliant on DB_DataObject so I haven't
switched. I also have some concerns about type info being "lost" after
the create (i.e. you have to specify the types *again* in your code).
Someone please correct me if MDB2 has fixed this.
I have never used adodb and never will. The standards don't fit PEAR
at all and I just don't like the MS-like API.
