Um, this is your problem. Remove safe_mode from php.ini and try again. PEAR 1.4.7 will automatically disable safe_mode when running PEAR Greg

OK, next attempt: restart apache with apache -k restart then try the upgrade, and if that doesn't work, try apache -k stop and try the upgrade. The problem is that something has locked your pear.bat, and in my experience this is usually the web server. If you use Zend IDE, also you will need to exit it prior to upgrade, as this sometimes randomly locks the entire directory in which PEAR resides. Greg P.S. if apache isn't in the path, it should be somewhere in C:\Programme\xampp like C:\Programme\xampp\apache

same error occurs. there is no effect if apache or the zend ide is running! I found a solution now. there was a problem with the pear.bat of the xampp installation.

i removed the pear.bat and the pear directory completely. downloaded http://go-pear.org/ and saved it as go-pear.php . then run: php go-pear.php in the command line and reinstalled everything! now everything works fine. thanx for the help!
