Hi all, I am not sure about everyone else experiences with the pear installer, (mine have been failures almost everytime for one reason or another on multiple machines and oss), I get the following message when performing any upgrade at all: No handlers for package.xml version 2.0
Rather than waste your time writing such a pointless message, why don't you try using go-pear.php to install PEAR. Whatever you have used is installing version 1.3.2 or older - which is 2 years old now. Next time, rather than complaining do some research. Here's a few things that anyone who has ever installed PHP (and has actually read release notes/README) would know: 1) if you are installing PHP on unix, then installing PEAR is as simple as specifying "--with-pear" on the install line. This works in all PHP versions since PHP 4.3.0. PHP 5.1.2+ includes the most recent (and ONLY secure) versions of PEAR. 1) http://pear.php.net/go-pear.phar is a single file solution for installing PEAR. It only works in PHP 5.1 and newer. Don't have PHP 5.1? Use http://pear.php.net/go-pear. How do you run it? Save the thing as "go-pear.php" and run: php go-pear.php. Not hard. This also works on shared hosts. 2) sudo has nothing to do with the package.xml 2.0 error. 3) get a real sysadmin for your company! You're using a version of PEAR with a *well-documented* security hole (see http://pear.php.net/advisory-20051104.txt). Who knows how many hackers, spammers, and terrorists are using security holes in your host to send out their lovely creations to others in the world. 4) If you were to eat a ham sandwich made two years ago, would you expect it to work for you too? Wow, pretty harsh. Completely understandable, though. Thanks for responding, I didn't know enough specifics to do it correctly. ;-)
Whoops, very sorry about this, this e-mail was supposed to be private. -- Justin Patrin
