The Sybase extension is NOT the MSSQL extension and it does NOT offer 100% compatibility to it. Only the functions that both extensions have in common are aliased to the mssql_* function namespace - but the parameters and behaviours remain those of the Sybase extension. The MSSQL driver for PEAR::DB is _supposed_ to be used with the MSSQL extension, not the Sybase extension. There´s a special Sybase driver for PEAR::DB that is supposed to be used with the Sybase extension.
So now, I will ask Mandrake for a complete mssql support through the use of rpm. Then all you have to do is ask Mandrake to provide an RPM containing PHP 4.3.0 or newer with the MSSQL extension activated - this extension cannot be used under Linux before PHP 4.3.0.
(It is also possible to slightly modify the Pear DB 1.4 to remove "MSSQL_ASSOC".)You would have to make your own driver that extends the normal MSSQL driver and overloads this method. As the MSSQL driver for PEAR::DB is not supposed to use some silly workaround for Sybase, it wouldn´t make sense to change this back in the original distribution. Regards, Markus
