I am starting with a new website using PHP+Pear modules. I've been a java servlets person and would appreciate greatly your help/experiences on the following: * choosing a persistence layer * choosing a templating system * choosing a web-form helper (data validation etc.) * setting up the build system & directory structure I am bit confused since there are a lot of choices for this stuff out there and I am sure you folks must have evaluated this before.
You may want to take a look at Metastorage. It is a persistence layer generator application. It takes a description of your classes in a simple XML format (CPML - Component Persistence Markup Language). In this description you detail your classes variables, validation rules, relationships and functions of persistence operations that you need in your application. Then Metastorage generates all the code for you in the form of auto-sufficient classes that you can use in your application right away just in a few seconds. It also generates database schemas and a special class to install it, all without the need to know any SQL. In the current version, Metastorage is also able to generate forms to provide the Web interface to your data objects. The forms may be generated with from templates that you define or use pre-defined themes with well known designs. This version is available in CVS but it will be released in a few days once I finish the documentation of this part. For now you may get more information about it here: http://www.meta-language.net/ http://www.meta-language.net/metastorage.html http://www.meta-language.net/download.html -- Regards, Manuel Lemos Free ready to use OOP components written in PHP http://www.phpclasses.org/
