Take PHP for example: Currently it bundles libraries like libmysql, GD
or Expat, which are also meant to be "common libraries". But they are
bundled to make the lives of the users more easy, since they don't have
to mess around with installing them separately.
Disclaimer: I'm no friend of bundling libraries or PEAR packages with
applications. But nevertheless I think that it saves a lot of time in
some situations for some people.
