I hate to use the word (am a converted asp programmer - halleluiah !)
but .. that would seem to be a bit like ODBC.
Does that mean we could have "drivers" that can be matched to a db AND its version (eg mySQL3.2, mySQL4.0) which is one of the nightmares of deploying ODBC (eg recently Interbase)
its starting to tickle me wiki's ;-)

At the next LinuxTag on July 10th there is a meeting about the future of database extensions where one of the big topics is how to make it easier for users to switch databases etc. I will be there as a the "PEAR guy" to make sure that we can make use of the resulting work in PEAR. The resulting work might result in a drastic reduction in the workload that PEAR DB would have to do. Regards, Lukas
