Fear not as I am the author of the MDB package it will not be ignored.
Basically DB and MDB are both wrapper around the php extensions plus
some magic to hide the differences of RDBMS (MDB more so than DB).
So whatever improvements are made to the extensions we can make use in
either package. Of course maintaining backwards compatibility (aka BC)
might hinder that adoption to some extend.
