pear should already be installed as part of the PHP distribution that comes
with red hat 9.
if you want to run a more recent version of pear, you can follow the
directions on the PEAR website.

of particular note is the section entitled "getting the manager", which can
be found here: <http://pear.php.net/manual/en/installation.getting.php>
after you have read the Fine manual if you still have problems, please post
to the list with specific error messages.
