hi,
yes.
i released a heck of a lot of code into the public domain - including
"cliffs".
cliffs is a bit like the samba 4 project (except it
was initiated in 2000) where i _literally_ took the CIFS
specification (the text file) and used a small IDL compiler that
andrew wrote (in awk!), and turned the specification into code.
i then had to cut over some sections of samba 3's source code, but the
amount was pretty minimalist.
therefore, you can literally do what you like with the code - minus the
samba 3 bits.
bear in mind, however, that the burden of responsibility for ensuring
you get the right bits is with YOU - unless you are prepared to pay for
my time to help correctly identify them.
the cvs logs will be of invaluable assistance to you should that not be
an option, however.
l.
p.s. also i know of someone who wrote a c++ smb library under the LGPL.
p.p.s. also why not consider writing a plugin architecture to farm
traffic off to a "helper" service - via shm or a unix domain socket?
you only need then have read, write, open, close, blah on _your_ side.
