You're obviously loading a broken apc module; removing it from the php.ini will solve the problem. Building a non-broken apc.so will also help. Well, dur - I guessed that much :)
I guess my point was, I'm getting an awful lot of broken modules against 5.1b3 whereas I've not got any before. make isn't chucking out any warnings or anything nice like I'd expect, so I haven't got a damn clue as to why they're all breaking. Some modules, like fileinfo, are working fine - others, like apc and xdebug are causing issues. There's obviously something rather funky going on, but I don't know how to spot it. I know how to write php extensions (having written a fair few in the past, and I look after imlib2 on pecl) so I'm quite happy to do legwork here in fixing stuff if it needs it - but before I can do that, I need to find out /why/ the modules are being created broken.
