Well, you have something unique to your machine. There are dozens of us building all these extensions for many different versions of PHP every day. I must have compiled and loaded pecl/apc for both PHP-4.4 and PHP-5.1 20-30 times every day for the past week. Is the libphp5.so you are running one you built yourself using the same compiler and linker as you are using for building these extensions? Right. Done a dist-upgrade, got fresh tarballs of everything and recompiled from scratch.
apc, as you said, works fine - I just tested that. It's ones like apd which don't. I know I could have something unique to my machine - but if that's the case, it's still worrying because I'm running debian stable - the only piece of "custom" software on here is php & associated modules. apd gives the following: PHP Warning: PHP Startup: Invalid library (maybe not a PHP library) 'apd.so' in Unknown on line 0 xdebug gives: php: relocation error: /usr/share/php/pecl/5.1-b3/xdebug.so: undefined symbol: zend_vm_use_old_executor
