Cool, this is exactly what I need - I just can't remember *where* I
needed it.
I thought gpgme was licensed under the GPL, so I checked the source
and all files have the LGPL header, but they have included both the
GPL and LGPL license which confused me earlier. It seems like they
have confused Gentoo devs too since they have put GPL as the license
for the package. But the README confirms the license.
