Hi,
I haven't really ocupied myself with the VC6 vs. VC9 compatibility, but
please consider the following points:
* 5.2.* isn't supported anymore, this means
* extensions code do not really care about 5.2.* APIs
* VC6 was issued 1998, so it's pretty old now
* currently all the PHP 5.3+ code is compiled with VC9.
* all PHP deps are compiled with VC9
* modern Apache versions are compiled with VC9/10
* VC6 knows nothing about modern C/C++ and optimization techniques
* etc.
This obviously leads to the conclusion that supporting VC6 were something
like supporting some really old and dead thing. Besides the question about
how much demand it really could find all the dev resources for that would
need to be at least doubled (devs, testing and build platforms, VC6 vs VC9
compat, etc.). Furthermore, in the light of the Visual C++ 2012 which is
already beta now, only the direction arises to move forward, just IMO.
Cheers
Anatoliy
