Both Hellekin and I are running Linux.
Here is the system info from Hellekin's phpinfo call:

Interestingly, Marco Kaiser is running a setup similar to mine and he
can't reproduce the error. I wonder if the problem is linked to a particular
configuration. I will ask him for his configure flags.
The only similarity that I can spot between the config flags that Hellekin
and I used is --enable-ftp -- but that does not seem like that likely spot
for the error... at least, I did not see anything in quick grep through
the source.
