If the connect fails, it's a pretty safe bet that the rest of the tests can be skipped, as they'll be rather pointless. 2. If DBX is a server process, a ps auxwww | grep DBX (or whatever) could be used to test if it's "there" or not. Or, perhaps some other simple command line test could be run to test if DBX is installed at all.
