Thanks for all the feedback folks.
In line with the comments I have received, I have changed the installer as
follows:
You can now select a 'standard' or 'advanced' installation.
PHP by default gets installed to Program Files\php
I've added ticked and shaded checkboxes for MySQL and ODBC to the 'External
module support' bit.
I've added Apache to the 'Server type' list.
I've removed .html and .php3 from the File types list
In the advanced installation, I've changed the default for when an old
php.ini is found to keeping the old one.
I've updated the screenshots at
http://www.dialsolutions.com/phil/php/installer/
to reflect the changes.
The page now shows a two column table showing the 'standard' and 'advanced'
options.
The server installation stuff is now my biggest concern.
I think I'm ok with PWS and older version of IIS which use the registry.
For IIS I still have to work out how to edit the metabase. If anyone has any
experience with this, I sure could use some help.
For apache, I think I can edit the httpd.conf file as long as they are in a
common format. In the version I have on my NT box (1.3) I manually added the
appropriate ScriptAlias, Addtype and Action lines to the conf file. On my
Linux box, the httpd.conf file has some cute conditional stuff in which
automatically sets up the php entries if PHP4 is defined. Does anyone know
if the Windows version ever has the conditional stuff in the file, or if
it's safe to just add (or edit) the required lines.
I have made no attempt so far to deal with the issue of ISAPI or Apache
modules, as they are not yet at production strength.
Cheers
