That slide is about PECL::soap.In Shane's Presentation (http://talks.php.net/show/soap-phpcon-ny2003/66) he uses a function "$server->setPersistence(SOAP_PERSISTENCE_SESSION)" to make the object persistant through the whole session, but this function does not exist in the current implementation anymore.
