To explain a little more where I was coming from :
I am comparing php4 to mod_perl for use in building commercial web applications.
I like php4 better ( easy to use , simple to create sessions, v.good http support )
but there is one area where mod_perl is way superior ( common database calls using
native connections with no apparent performance penalty ).
I thought that to add this to php4 would turn a great tool into an unbeatable one !
I am aware that I can use php4 to write wrapper functions to achieve what I want, but I believe that
to achieve good performance these need to be at the php4 source level - rather than built using php4
itself....
I will have a look at metabase to see if it does what I want ( would be great if it does )
