Maybe this has something to do with why it's not working for you. I looked at the backtrace you sent us and checked the code. The code in PHP seems to be OK so the pointer being destroyed should be OK. Maybe you're linking with a different debug library and thus free() kind of dies for you? Unlikely but possible.
