Unfortunately true. That is always a problem, if you have to
plant thread-safety into a system which was not developed
with thread-safety in mind.
We should start with some locks around larger subsystems
which we will refine over time. Linux and FreeBSD have
employed this technique successfully.
Until all subsystems are completely thread-safe, using a
threaded web server like AOLserver or Apache 2.0 will
probably result in a speed decrease, because the level of
concurrency cannot be upheld (in comparison to process-based
servers like Apache 1.3).
