I agree that buying from Amazon would not be the prudent thing to do. :) Unless of course you like supporting companies that are in complete direct opposition to the ideals of the OpenSource movement.
How are they in complete direct opposition to these ideals? They are trying to use software patent (on pretty simple thing BTW) to stop competitors from doing some things. Just imagine - what such precedents can mean for free software... More information can be found at http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/amazon.html A couple of months ago they switched from Netscape server to Apache/PHP; They are breaking knot on which they are sitting, that's right. I, for one, don't have any intention to boycott them. Wait summons to court on process about violation of some stupid patent in PHP then. Perhaps you'll change your mind then. It'll be to later to do then I afraid though.
Such a court note would bring Amazon (or anyone else) a much bigger catastrophe than it could ever gain. I'm not afraid of it.
I'm not always agree with Stallman but here he is right: it's VERY potentially dangerous for free software world...
As I said in my other post, it's not Amazon that should be blamed, it's the system that might allow them to actually register this as a software patent. Zeev -- Zeev Suraski <zeev@zend.com> http://www.zend.com/
