Oh cool, glad it was in there. I'm bad about keeping up with what is where; I don't have the changelog memorized. :) As to the question about function -> dll mapping....well, I don't believe there's a list that says "to use X, you must install Y", but the Developers have done a really good job of naming things consistently. PCRE = Perl Compatible Regular Expressions, preg_* = the prefix used for Perl compatible regular expressions functions, ergo look for some dll with "pcre" in it somewhere. :) Want to ues mcrypt_* functions? Find the dll with "mcrypt" somewhere in its name. It's a good bet. > Will the answer to the php4 question be similar - a dll required, and where > to find? It was for dbm_* functions, I think? Then yes, the answer would be similar: if it's possible to use a set of functions on windows, AND the Developers have good reason to put a standard dll in the distribution (good reasons include, I believe, the following: a) it works, b) it works well enough that they want to attach "darn near ready for prime-time" to it, and c) it's higher on the collective wishlists of php users than say....image creation or oracle connectivity, or....you get the picture.), then look in the distribution. Remember, there are far less Windows folks working on php than Linux/UNIX folks, so what gets done is _really_ prioritized. That beign said, there are other folks who have compiled dll files, and have them available for download. For example, at download.swwwing.com/php4/ there's a whole slew of them. There are dependencies to take into consideration, though - if you use those dlls, be sure to grab the set of core files from there as well. I just looked and didn't see a dbm-related one, though. I believe your next step would be to ask a pointed question witha new subject line that says "Anyone have php_dbm.dll?" :) Good luck - Julie +------------------------------------------------+ | Julie Meloni (jcm@i2ii.com) | | Tech.
