Unable to open 'c:\\windows\\TEMP\\php2' for reading ----error on upload attempt

I am new to this list, php, and scripting in general. I have been working through a book and I keep getting this error when I try to upload a file from an html form. I am using W98 with PWS and PHP 4. In my php.ini the temp directory listed is simply c:\windows\temp\. I don't know where this php2 business is coming from...but when I place a folder in my temp directory called php2, I get the same error saying its unable to open windows\temp\php3. When I add a php3 folder...same error with php4. I have no idea what is going on. Can someone help me? Remember I'm a novice so you might have to be very specific. Sean
