Another interesting thing i have noticed in the past is if you have some
thing like Notepad or Ultraedit setup to edit .php this tends to screw up
the parsing of PHP by PWS.
I got sick of changing reg entries on my Windows box's and PWS lack of
virtual hosts i changed to using Apache, ive used this for development for
some time and it works a treat. I havent used apache in any sort of Windows
production environment but for that id change to NT and IIS.

Matthew -
It might be easier to help you if you post more specific details:
Can you verify:
1) that your php.exe is at c:\php3\php.exe
2) that your php_iis_reg.inf file had refs to this location (including the
double %s in the first three examples, don't know what it does, but I know
you have to have it)
3) then verify within regedit (but don't adjust anything!) that this is the
case - check all the locations suggested... I'm pretty sure the problem will
be in one of your keys.
4) post relevant pieces of your php3.ini file as below:
Although I'm a PHP newbie, given that my PHP3 installation worked fine...
here's some tidbits from my installation
Registry Entries
================
Here's the detail from my php_iis_reg.inf file that I right clicked on and
"install"ed (I presume you did this):
...
HKLM,"System\CurrentControlSet\Services\W3Svc\Parameters\Script
Map",".php3",0,"c:\php3\php.exe %s %s"
HKLM,"System\CurrentControlSet\Services\W3Svc\Parameters\Script
Map",".phtm3",0,"c:\php3\php.exe %s %s"
HKLM,"System\CurrentControlSet\Services\W3Svc\Parameters\Script
Map",".php",0,"c:\php3\php.exe %s %s"
...
HKCR,"phpfile\Shell\open\command","",0,"c:\php3\php.exe %1"
...
With my php3 files all within c:\php3 this hasn't caused a problem.
PHP3.ini file
==============
I notice that I put my php3.ini* file in my windows directory (only), and
that I adjusted the areas in the " Paths and Directories " to point to real
world locations (yours will definitely vary) as follows:
....................
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
; Paths and Directories ;
;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;
include_path =
; UNIX: "/path1:/path2" Windows: "\path1;\path2"
doc_root = "C:\PERSONAL\TheLaboratory\wwwroot"
; the root of the php pages, used only if nonempty
user_dir =
; the directory under which php opens the script
using /~username, used
only if nonempty
;upload_tmp_dir = "C:\PERSONAL\TheLaboratory\wwwphp3\uploaded"
; temporary directory for HTTP uploaded files (will
use system default if
not specified)
upload_max_filesize = 2097152
; 2 Meg default limit on file uploads
extension_dir = "C:\PHP3"
; directory in which the loadable extensions
(modules) reside
....................
* copied from the php3.ini-dist file from the distribution.
