the newest dlls?

sometimes I'm bored to ask this question! Everytime a new version of php4 apears, I'm wondering what function this time will fail and take hours of my lifetime. An example: the gd.dll works, but function imagettftext(..) give mirrowed output (in position and each character) to the screen. (the same script works perfectly online on php3 and gd 1.6.2) or: ftp_connect() has no timeout (which it had have in older versions) it does not even take any notice of max_execution_time in php.ini or the 'timeout' in Apache. If I make the connection to the web after the script starts it doesn't return from it's journey thru univers. Well, I can't help thinking, that anyone is interested in my sorrows, but it could be possible that my source for the dll's is not the best? thanks for helping :-))
