For all those who want to run Apache on Windows, here are some tips:
First thing, if you don't know much about installing Apache,Php,Perl,MySql
etc. Go to http://www.foxserv.net and download Foxserv, its an
Apache, Php,
MySql, Perl installer. So with just a few clicks away you get the whole
thing installed and working.
If you want to install and configure every thing yourself then get
Apache from http://httpd.apache.org/download.cgi
Php from http://www.php.net/downloads.php
MySql from http://www.mysql.com/downloads/mysql-4.0.html
Perl from http://www.activestate.com/Products/ActivePerl/
ActivePython from http://www.activestate.com/Products/ActivePython/
ActiveTcl from http://www.activestate.com/Products/ActiveTcl/
Read the installing instructions carefully, install & configure every thing
to work properly.
If your machine has capability you can run multiple server on the same, but
each must listen at different port,
For this you have to make changes in httpd.conf file located at
C:\Apache\conf directory (replace the directory letter or path if you have
installed it at some different location.
Now open httpd.conf file in notepad and look for the following lines
Listen 80
# Change 80 to 8080 : this is the port number where Apache will listen and
work.
ServerName localhost:80
# Again change 80 to 8080 : now your server is ready to listen and serve
files on port 8080
So now the server address is http://localhost:8080
Now to configure php with Apache I assume you have downloaded latest Php
windows binaries, and have them installed at C:\php, although it has got
very precise instructions on how to install and configure, but here are some
tips
Again in httpd.conf, add the following lines
LoadModule php4_module D:\FoxServ\php\sapi\php4apache2.dll
# If you have installed Apache 2.x
LoadModule php4_module D:\FoxServ\php\sapi\php4apache.dll
# If you have installed Apache 1.3.x
In the end I would like to inform all that Apache 2 can run as service on
only NT or Win2k, but on Win98 you will have to run it as application.
Another tip if Php can be installed and used with PWS/IIS so you can have
PHP for PWS/IIS from http://www.php.net and install and run it as
cgi only.
