I'm the guy Dan's talking about. I went to an Oracle class last week and the instructor could not tell me why Oracle name resolution still works even after I renamed sqlnet.ora and tnsnames.ora. To get this 'fix' to work I had to change my connection string by adding '.world' to the instance name. Here is an example. php3: $conn = Ora_Logon("autoid@tst3", "password") or die; php4: $conn = Ora_Logon("autoid@tst3.world", "password") or die; Since I've got Oracle working I have not tested ODBC, but I suspect that this fix will work for that too. BTW, I installed PHP4 on an NT Server with IIS4 and my test script was able to connect to the same instance (autoid@tst3) without making any changes to Oracle name resolution. My best guess is there is something strange about Oracle on my workstation. Adding '.world' does not seem to hurt anything, my scripts now work on both my workstation and the server so I'm happy. -----Original Message----- From: Dan Halbach [mailto:dsh@pareto.com] Sent: Thursday, June 08, 2000 8:53 AM To: Lupus Arctos Cc: Jeff Fox; php-windows@lists.php.net Subject: Re: oracle ODBC - PHP4 problem & still pgsql.dll A friend of mine had this same problem. Although we can't figure out why it worked, he solved the problem by renaming c:\orant\network\admin\tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora so they would not play a part in Oracle name resolution.
