It's *possible*, but it's a bit of a pain. Microsoft in no way supports it, so it has to be done manually, but I know it can be done, because I've done it. The only problem with it once it's setup is that adding usernames and passwords within FrontPage 2000 doesn't work, because Apache for Win32 uses MD5 encryption, and FrontPage wants to use crypt with Apache. You can read some instructions in doing so here: http://www.zts.com/msfpse/msfpse4apache.htm There's also a couple of ways of setting it up with dual web servers, using PWS for FrontPage, but Apache for all the hosting, but except for adding users, the end result isn't as clean. Also, if you want to use the automated ASP scripts, such as for DB hosting, you will have to install another program such as Chili!Soft to handle the ASP in Apache, but it can be done (and I haven't tried any others yet). If you have any questions on doing it, feel free to email me. (I have Apache 1.3.14/PHP4.0.3pl1/FrontPage2000 Server Extension/Chili!Soft/ActiveState Perl all running on my Win2000 system.) Right. I'm no PWS user, but I would like some of my users to be able to update some pages (pure HTML ones, no scripts), and it so happens that FrontPage, not being -by far- the best HTML editor is very easy to use. Is it possible to activate FrontPage extensions for use with Apache/PHP? This is probably OT, more like an apache question... Thanks, Gonzalo. From the number of posts, it appears that PHP4 has major problems with
Win98
& PWS. Lots of folks are unable to get it to work. I know the quick fix for PHP appears to be go with the Apache or Xitami web server, but in the grand scheme of what some of us are doing, that is not a practical
solution.
I have programs I'm definitely using set up just the way I want them in Win98/PWS. I'm just learning PHP and do not want to jeopardize my bread
and
butter to simply see if I want to use PHP. I have downloaded the windows installer and php4.. tried it to no avail.. finally removed it from my system and was ready to give up until the list I was in said I SHOULD be in this one. So here we go again.. will it work or does anyone have it working with fp2000,win98 and pws Thanks Phil Photography by Gooch's www.goochs.com -- PHP Windows Mailing List (http://www.php.net/) To unsubscribe, e-mail: php-windows-unsubscribe@lists.php.net For additional commands, e-mail: php-windows-help@lists.php.net To contact the list administrators, e-mail: php-list-admin@lists.php.net
