I haven't found MySQL's lack of transactions to make ecomm impossible.
Afterall, there are table-level locks. This might seem like a big
performance
hit, but in reality, you're only needing to lock the invoice table small
part of the time. FreeTrade, an ecomm toolkit I developed, uses MySQL
and is the engine behind at least one high-traffic site, Restoration
Hardware.

If I had to pick a feature that clients have asked for that MySQL doesn't
do yet, it would be replication. I'm not convinced that RAID doesn't
address the problem sufficiently, though.
